Open your Mind

The question was raised last week in class if we can break free of terministic screens or if we will forever be en captured by them. I have been thinking about this, and I have come to the conclusion that the world itself will never be free of them, but certain individuals can. If we are conscious of them, and made aware, we can then make a conscious effort not to fall in the hole or generalize. I try to keep my mind open to all possibilities that way I don't lose sight of anything that my be valuable.

"you persuade a man only insofar as you can talk his language by speech  gesture, tonality, order, image, attitude, idea, identifying your ways with us"  so i suppose that common places and common generalizations about words and ideas are always going to stick a carry, but if you keep an open mind to all the possible meanings, then there is so much more to learn. So much more to take away from an experience.

We raised the discussion of racism in class, and I simply can not wrap my head around racism. I don't even see color of skin when I speak with someone. I do not understand the idea of generalizations made about race or color of skin. It makes no sense to me, so I am not sure I can even have a valid discussion about it. It would be a discussion that ended right there, I can't even begin to sympathize with someone that makes generalizations with someone based on physical feature.

Everyone's experiences are different, but we all have a common ground somewhere, even if it be minute...

I completely agree with you on the subject of terministic screens and how we simply cannot be completely freed from them but somewhat forgotten of them. The quote you used, "you persuade a man only insofar as you can talk his language by speech gesture, tonality, order, image, attitude, idea, identifying your ways with us" really made your statement clearer. Having common places and common generalizations make us human especially when you spoke on the words and ideas we are always carrying.
